The Night Watch
Hey everyone! It’s Holly again and we are officially through night number 2 on our own. Here’s the report: Night number 1 – the kid totally knew we were on our own and decided to throw down some of his best skills. From 12 – 3, he fussed and cried, refused to burp, wanted his pacifier for the millionth time, had like 3 diaper changes and 2 bottle tries before finally falling asleep at like 3:30..for like an hour and a half! Now i would like to blame John’s genes for this behavior..except that i had colic when i was a baby and wouldn’t sleep like a wink, so i guess it’s pay back for both of us! But we were smarter last night – i took a pregame nap from 9 to 12 and we kept him awake more in the night time (much to his surprise!) and then John and I traded shifts and little Levi didn’t know what hit him! (Mostly cause he just slept the whole time and woke up to suck down bottles like a champ) So i think the score is tied. :)But on the good news side – we took Levi back to the pediatrician to be weighed again and he had gained 5 ounces! So we’re up to 7lbs, 3 ounces and back on track. we were soooo relieved and proud of our little guy. So that was great great news for us. And then last night, our good friends Jon, Sunny and Dora Williams came over to bring/have dinner with us and it was awesome. Sunny has been a great source of support this past week to all my mommy questions and Jon is one of my favorite people in the world (and one of John’s because they got to play Rockband for a while too)…so it was so great to have friends over. Our dining room table hasn’t had this much use since…ever! So thanks to everyone who’s been praying and calling and bringing food – we are so totally blown away by your love and support. And let’s face it – we’ve needed it! So may God shower all that love back at ya!
Tonight…
Well, Holly’s parents have been staying with us for the past week. Tonight is the first night we’re kickin’ it old school. Holly, me, Levi, and Sydney. So far he hasn’t wanted to go to sleep yet. Even for a few hours. But, we’re hoping that some warm formula and a full tummy will bring that on. I’m not posting any pictures tonight. But, I’m sure to be posting some tomorrow, as we’ve got a few good shots over the past day or so. So, goodnight, and check back again tomorrow afternoon for some picture love. JD out.
We love Levi more every day
That is a true statement. We love him more every day. Every day there are new things we learn about his personality. Like the head-bob thing that he does when he’s hungry, or his “praying hands” (which I’m still trying to capture in a picture).
He’s spending a few more minutes with open eyes, and we’re anxiously awaiting for the irises of his eyes to show their true color. From my extensive research of our families (yep, I’m full of it) it seems that we have brown eyes, blue eyes, gray eyes, green eyes – on both sides of the family. So, your guess is as good as mine. Although, I’m pretty sure he’s going to have brown eyes like his dad
Just a sidenote. I’m going to start uploading as frequently as I can stand. Holly reassured me that my perfectionist tendencies are starting to come out. Gotta have the right tools, and I haven’t spent that much time figuring out WordPress. So far… um, I’ll hold that thought and get back to things that you care about.

…and it’s AMAZING! He’s already writing notes.
“I’m in love, I’m in love and i don’t care who knows it!” -Buddy the Elf..and Holly
Okay – so Elf and I have a little more in common than i thought. But it’s true – we are so completely in love with Levi! BTW – this is Holly. John is dead asleep after taking the graveyard shift..aka”Levi’s most awake time of day.” So i thought i’d jump on and give you guys an update. I’ll try to have him post some pics too cause i know there are several of you sitting in your cubes/meetings right now who are totally disappointed with a “just words” post. (Sara - you know i’m talking about you!)But i thought i’d update you on how things have been going over the past few days. First of all – Levi is an excellent sleeper..like if there was an award for sleeping, he would win it. Which is fantastic – except when we are trying to get him to eat. The books tell you that there are many tricks to the trade to get him to stay awake…tickle his feet, blow on his face, get him naked, put a cool washcloth on him – yeah, our kiddo LOVES all those things. it makes him even more relaxed. So every three hours we wage war to keep his eyes open so that he can get just “one more ounce!” we’ve actually had quite a few challenges getting him to eat. We had some really frustrating/conflicting advice from the nurses in the hospital that didn’t really set us up to win. we ended up having to give him formula when we really wanted to go with breast feeding because he wasn’t eating for long enough. (according to “hospital procedures.” which one nurse actually took out a laminated card and READ aloud to us from) And that milk gave him tummy issues which gave him feeding issues which lead him to stop eating all together on Sunday night (the day we came home). So – we had a trip to the pediatrician Monday morning who told us to keep supplementing with soy formula because our little guy had lost a little too much wait (insert Holly crying again for the 4th time that day). So we’ve been doing both for the past couple days, but the breast feeding thing is just not working out. he really prefers the bottles and screams bloody murder every time we try to breast feed. So i’ve just been praying and praying about what the next step is. I really feel like God has been leading and my family’s advice has been great..so i’m just taking it one day at a time. But by no means is this a bad thing – cause our little boy is awesome and he’s eating and growing and peeing on everything. Literally – on everything. Plus – Syd our doggie..who we now call the big “Sydster” (get it? like big sister, only Sydster ..i know we’re hilarious) has been keeping watch over the Pack n Play by night. She finally has a job to do and she’s thrilled. So again – there’s a glimpse into our world right now. So much has changed in the last week – it is unbelievable. Okay – now go back to work!!!
We made it home.
Sorry about the break in communication. Holly and I arrived home from the hospital on Sunday afternoon, and have been learning how to be parents. Mom and Dad Miller have been staying with us the last couple of nights, which has been a great gift.Little Levi is just doing what he do. Sleep… be held… eat… all the good things. He’s opened his eyes a few times, and shone glimpses of a colorful personality. Thanks again to everyone for your prayers. Levi’s healthy, Holly is recovering well, and it seems like last Friday was an age ago.As for pictures, I’m working backwards (many more to upload)…. here’s the latest one…
