The Delich Family

Well friends, i’m not gonna lie to ya, yesterday was tough.  Levi started out so good – a perfect angel for when he met Ms Gina (who brought an awesome chicken pot pie),  Jill, Toni, and Brooke at lunch time..but then things just went downhill from there.  He wouldn’t sleep, he wouldn’t eat more than an ounce at a time, he pooed like a racehorse (though he’s only projectile pooed on John!), and just wouldn’t settle for more than a few minutes.   So by the time my folks came at 6 to give us some relief – we were exhausted!  We went to bed at 8:30 to catch some zzz’s before John got up for the nightshift at midnight.  And of course, once the grandparents came, Levi turned his game around and finally took a good long rest so that by the time John fed him at 3 – he was ready to eat 5 freaking ounces!  Crazy kid.  But now on the morning shift – all is well with the world again.  I have to just keep taking deep breaths and remembering that each day is just a day and not the rest of our lives.  Every time he doesn’t do something perfectly i get worried that we’re engraining a pattern for the rest of his life and that he’s never gonna sleep, or that he’s always gonna want to be rocked to sleep.  But i have to remember that he’s only 13 days old (wow) and that every day is a new day…and there’s always wine! (for me, not the kid)  I also posted a couple pics below of Syd.  Now you may not know it if you come over (because she’ll probably bark her face off at you), but she is the sweetest doggie ever and she has taken to Levi like it’s her job.  Below is a pic of what Syd does every morning when she greets everyone.  She runs up to the top of the couch and checks on her baby and once she’s satisfied, you can almost see her nod her head like “he’s okay” and then she runs away (but not too far away).  Once we caught her giving him a super quick kiss on the nose.  But as the second pic below shows, even Syd is learning that having a baby is exhausting!  Have a great day out there in the outside world..tell it we said hello!

Hey everyone! It’s Holly again and we are officially through night number 2 on our own.  Here’s the report:  Night number 1 – the kid totally knew we were on our own and decided to throw down some of his best skills.    From 12 – 3, he fussed and cried, refused to burp, wanted his pacifier for the millionth time, had like 3 diaper changes and 2 bottle tries before finally falling asleep at like 3:30..for like an hour and a half!  Now i would like to blame John’s genes for this behavior..except that i had colic when i was a baby and wouldn’t sleep like a wink, so i guess it’s pay back for both of us! But we were smarter last night – i took a pregame nap from 9 to 12 and we kept him awake more in the night time (much to his surprise!) and then John and I traded shifts and little Levi didn’t know what hit him!  (Mostly cause he just slept the whole time and woke up to suck down bottles like a champ) So i think the score is tied.  :)But on the good news side – we took Levi back to the pediatrician to be weighed again and he had gained 5 ounces!  So we’re up to 7lbs, 3 ounces and back on track.  we were soooo relieved and proud of our little guy.  So that was great great news for us.  And then last night, our good friends Jon, Sunny and Dora Williams came over to bring/have dinner with us and it was awesome.  Sunny has been a great source of support this past week to all my mommy questions and Jon is one of my favorite people in the world (and one of John’s because they got to play Rockband for a while too)…so it was so great to have friends over.  Our dining room table hasn’t had this much use since…ever!  So thanks to everyone who’s been praying and calling and bringing food – we are so totally blown away by your love and support.  And let’s face it – we’ve needed it!  So may God shower all that love back at ya! 

Well, Holly’s parents have been staying with us for the past week.  Tonight is the first night we’re kickin’ it old school.  Holly, me, Levi, and Sydney.  So far he hasn’t wanted to go to sleep yet.  Even for a few hours.  But, we’re hoping that some warm formula and a full tummy will bring that on. I’m not posting any pictures tonight.  But, I’m sure to be posting some tomorrow, as we’ve got a few good shots over the past day or so. So, goodnight, and check back again tomorrow afternoon for some picture love. JD out.
